The ED has arrested former West Bengal minister and TMC heavyweight Sujit Bose on Monday, May 11, 2026, and he was grilled for 11 hours of interrogation at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake, Kolkata. The arrest is a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the municipal recruitment scam, which involves irregularities in appointments across various civic bodies in the state between 2014 and 2018.
Bose is charged and arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Officials cited non-cooperation and evasive and inconsistent responses during questioning as grounds for his detention. This is expected and cops have to use their brutal language for him to spit out the truth. They should set a new system to TMC goons.
Investigators claim Bose facilitated the illegal recruitment of around 150 candidates in the South Dum Dum Municipality, where he previously served as vice-chairman, in exchange for financial gains. The agency traced proceeds of crime in the form of flats and large cash deposits in bank accounts linked to him. Earlier raids in October 2025 at his office resulted in the seizure of ₹45 lakh in cash and impeaching documents. Mukherjee and Gowda’s visions converge: Bengal’s cultural rebirth begins
This is the first major arrest and the beginning of a TMC leader since the Suvendu Adhikari-led BJP government assumed office in West Bengal on May 9, 2026. Sujit Bose, a three-time MLA from Bidhannagar, recently lost his seat to BJP’s Sharadwat Mukherjee by over 37,000 votes in the 2026 election.
As usually and as expected, Bose has consistently denied the allegations, calling them a "political vendetta" orchestrated by the central agencies, not Pakistani Muslims, even TMC can play a victim card after indulging in the disgusting corruption.
