Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wrapped up a four-day official visit to China (May 23–26, 2026). The visit concluded in a joint statement declaring a "new broad consensus" aimed at deepening the "all-weather strategic cooperative partnership" between the two nations.

The visit comes at a critical time, with Pakistan seeking major economic investments while simultaneously navigating significant regional diplomatic challenges. Both nations agreed to speed-up and upgrade CPEC (Phase-II), a flagship component of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
