As India intends to diversify its crude oil imports with continuing supply volatility in West Asia, the meeting signals a transition from transactional buying to a structured, strategic partnership.
While India has traditionally relied on spot-market purchases for Venezuelan crude, both nations are now negotiating long-term supply agreements.
Venezuela possesses the world’s largest proven oil reserves but requires stable, high-volume buyers. India, possessing massive refining capacity tailored to handle heavy Venezuelan crude alongside rapidly growing domestic demand, fits the profile of a preferred, long-term energy partner.
