The Karnataka State Government has undertaken several ambitious projects to ensure the comprehensive development of Bengaluru. These initiatives include the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), construction of elevated corridors near arterial roads, the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR), solid waste management, and other infrastructure projects. The estimated cost for these projects is approximately ₹1.50 lakh crore, and the state government has requested financial assistance from the Central Government, submitting a proposal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Media reports have highlighted the details of these projects.

  1. Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS):
    The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has proposed four semi-high-speed "Namo Bharat" RRTS corridors connecting Bengaluru with its surrounding satellite towns. This project aims to reduce traffic congestion within and around the city while providing a rapid transit system. The RRTS is expected to alleviate population pressure in Bengaluru and stimulate economic activities.

  2. Construction of Elevated Corridors:
    In collaboration with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL), the government plans to construct 16 elevated corridors to manage Bengaluru’s traffic congestion. The estimated cost for this initiative is ₹13,000 crore. These corridors will be built along key arterial roads to facilitate smoother vehicular movement. Key corridors include:

    • Mahadevapura - Malur Road: 0.5 km (₹60 crore)

    • Areshwadi - Bidarahalli - Halasurgate: 10.5 km (₹1,260 crore)

    • Government Rice Mill - Kambipura: 15 km (₹1,800 crore)

  3. Peripheral Ring Road (PRR):
    The Peripheral Ring Road project aims to reduce traffic pressure in Bengaluru’s outer areas. This 73-km road is estimated to cost ₹26,000 crore, with funding planned through a loan from HUDCO. As part of the Bengaluru Business Corridor, the project involves land acquisition through agreements with farmers, and the process is currently underway.

  4. Solid Waste Management:
    Under the "Swachh Bengaluru" initiative, a ₹4,000 crore project has been announced to keep the city clean. Bengaluru will be divided into 33 waste management zones, and tenders for a seven-year operational plan will be called soon. A one-time waste clearance campaign will also be conducted, with citizens encouraged to report waste to the Greater Bengaluru Authority.

  5. Appeal to the Central Government:
    The total estimated cost of these projects is ₹1.50 lakh crore, and the state government has sought financial support from the Central Government. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has discussed these projects in detail, aiming to implement them successfully with the cooperation of the Central Government.
