New Delhi: On Thursday, 26 officers and airmen of the Indian Air Force (IAF) were awarded the Air Force Medal (Gallantry) for their exceptional bravery during Operation Sindoor. The recipients include fighter pilots who conducted strikes on targets inside Pakistan and officers and personnel who operated the S-400 and other air defense systems, successfully thwarting all planned attacks by Pakistan on India. In response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, which claimed 26 lives, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025. read also: K.N. The operation targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, eliminating over 100 terrorists. This operation showcased India’s air power dominance and delivered a strong response to cross-border terrorism. Among the recipients of the Air Force Medal are Group Captains Ankur Hakeem, Manav Bhatia, Yasir Farooqi, Varlin Bhoj, Anuraj Singh Minhas, Omar Brown, Deepak Chauhan, and Kunal Vishwas Shimpi, recognized for their valor in the battlefield. During Operation Sindoor, the S-400 Sudarshan Chakra air defense system, procured from Russia, played a pivotal role in intercepting Pakistani drones and missiles. Capable of neutralizing aerial targets up to 400 km and detecting targets at 600 km, the S-400 system foiled attacks aimed at 15 Indian cities, ensuring no damage to Indian assets.read also: K.N. President Droupadi Murmu, on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, approved 127 gallantry awards and 40 distinguished service awards, including the Air Force Medal (Gallantry), Vira Chakra, and Yudh Seva Medal. These awards symbolize the valor and sacrifice of the Indian armed forces.
