The police had instructed him to appear at 10:30 AM, but he arrived at 1:00 PM with his lawyers.The controversy originates from a 23-minute, 52-second video uploaded on Sameer’s YouTube channel, Dhoota, which garnered over 4 million views and went viral. The video allegedly contained fabricated details about a mass burial and sexual abuse linked to Dharmasthala, featuring fictional characters named Bheema and Ananya Bhat.
These claims were deemed defamatory, tarnishing the reputation of the revered Dharmasthala temple. The police allege that the video included fictitious details not present in a sanitation worker’s complaint or a suo motu statement recorded in court.On July 12, 2025, a suo motu case was registered against Sameer at the Dharmasthala police station under sections 192 (provocation to riot), 240 (spreading false information), and 353(1)(b) (statements causing public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). During the inquiry, Inspector Nagesh Kadri questioned Sameer extensively. To maintain law and order, the investigation was shifted from Dharmasthala to Beltangady police station. Sameer arrived at the station with his legal team, carrying a laptop bag and documents, wearing sunglasses and displaying a calm demeanor.
