The tragic death of Bhumik, a devoted Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fan, in a stampede incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media following an emotional statement from his father. “ my son is no longer with me, RCB’s compensation money is worth no more than the dust beneath my feet,” said Bhumik’s father, D.T. Lakshman, reflecting the profound grief of a parent. This statement has resonated deeply, highlighting the irreplaceable loss of a loved one.
Background of the Bengaluru Stampede
On June 4, 2025, a stampede occurred near M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB’s victory celebrations after winning the IPL 2025 title, claiming 11 lives, including Bhumik’s. Initially, RCB announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh for the families of the deceased. On August 30, 2025, the franchise increased this amount to ₹25 lakh per family under its newly launched ‘RCB Cares’ initiative, aimed at supporting the affected families. Bhumik’s Father’s Heartfelt Reaction
Lakshman D.T., Bhumik’s father from Kuppagodu village in Belur taluk, expressed his anguish, stating, “Three months have passed, but the memory of my son continues to haunt me. If my son is no longer here, their compensation money is worthless to me. I’ve already said I don’t want it.” He further noted, “The KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association) may have deposited some money, but I haven’t even checked. No one else has contacted us, and we don’t want their money. Please, let’s not discuss this further.” His words underscore the depth of his grief, emphasizing that no financial aid can fill the void left by his son’s death.
Bhumik, the only son of Lakshman and Ashwini, was a second-year engineering student at a private college in Bengaluru. On the day of the incident, he had attended college before heading to Chinnaswamy Stadium with friends to join the victory celebrations, where he tragically lost his life in the stampede.
Response from Another Victim’s Family
Devaraj, the father of Manoj Kumar from Tumakuru, another victim of the stampede, echoed similar sentiments. He stated, “The franchise initially provided ₹10 lakh as immediate financial aid. We have no information about the increase to ₹25 lakh, and no one has contacted us yet. No amount of money can bring my son back or lessen our grief.” Manoj, their only son, was pursuing higher studies in Hebbal, Bengaluru, and his loss has left the family devastated.Karnataka Sees 2 Rapes and 16 Sexual Assault Cases Daily: 1,888 Rape Cases in 2.5 Years, But Zero Convictions!
RCB Cares Initiative
Two days ago, RCB posted an emotional message on its official X handle, announcing the ‘RCB Cares’ initiative to support the families of the stampede victims. On August 30, the franchise shared another post, confirming the increased compensation of ₹25 lakh per family. The statement read, “We lost eleven members of the RCB family. They were part of us, part of what makes our city, community, and team unique. Their absence will echo in our memories. No aid can fill their void, but as a first step and a mark of respect, RCB is providing ₹25 lakh to each family. This is not just financial aid but a promise of compassion, unity, and ongoing care.” The post emphasized that ‘RCB Cares’ is a long-term commitment to honor the fans’ memory and ensure their safety and trust.
