Bengaluru: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has reportedly initiated an investigation into the foreign funding of NGOs linked to the Dharmasthala case. The ED has registered a case and is now probing the financial transactions of several NGOs, including Samvada and Odanaadi, on suspicion that they provided foreign funds to the accused. This development is expected to expose a network of NGOs and their financial dealings.

The ED's entry into the 'Burude' case puts these NGOs in a difficult position. The agency is seeking five years' worth of financial records and details about the collection and management of foreign funds under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA).

Letters to Banks -

Following a complaint from Tejas Gowda and another individual, the ED has written to several banks, including SBI, requesting details of the NGOs' bank accounts and PAN cards. The objective is to obtain comprehensive information on financial transactions, the origin of foreign funds, the countries from which the money was sent, and related account numbers for the past five years.

Home Minister's Meeting and Investigation Progress

CID DGP Pranab Mohanty met with Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara for over an hour to discuss the progress of the 'Burude' case investigation. It is understood that they reviewed the current status of the probe and the measures taken so far. Additionally, discussions were held regarding the next steps in the investigation as the police custody of the accused, Chinnayya, is set to end.
