"Not just insult of my mother but of all mothers, sisters & daughters of the country": PM Modi hits back to Congress over abusive remarks on his mother

stating, “Mother is our world. Mother is our self-respect... My mother was abused from the stage of RJD-Congress in Bihar... These abuses are not just an insult to my mother. These are insults to the mothers, sisters, and daughters of the country.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for alleged abusive remarks made against his late mother during a rally in Bihar, describing the incident as an insult to all mothers, sisters, and daughters of India. Speaking at the virtual inauguration of the Bihar Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Sahkari Sangh Limited on September 2, 2025, PM Modi expressed his emotional pain, stating, “Mother is our world. Mother is our self-respect... My mother was abused from the stage of RJD-Congress in Bihar... These abuses are not just an insult to my mother. These are insults to the mothers, sisters, and daughters of the country.”

The controversy stemmed from a viral video showing derogatory remarks made against PM Modi and his late mother, Heeraben Modi, during the Congress-led 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Darbhanga, Bihar, on August 28, 2025. The individual responsible, identified as Mohammad Rizvi alias Raja, was arrested by Darbhanga Police and sent to 14-day judicial custody. The rally, part of the opposition’s campaign against alleged irregularities in the Election Commission’s voter list revision, included Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, though they were not present on stage during the incident.Levi's Men's Slim Fit Mid Rise 511 Mid-Rise Jeans

BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Haryana Minister Anil Vij, and Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, condemned the remarks, calling them shameful and disrespectful to Indian culture and women. Shah demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi, while Vij led protests in Ambala, asserting that the nation would not tolerate such insults. Congress distanced itself from the remarks, with leader Rashid Alvi stating the party does not approve of such language. However, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh claimed the individual who made the remarks was linked to the BJP, alleging a conspiracy to defame Congress. Also Read: Dharmasthala Case – No Objection to ED Probe into NGO Funding: Karnataka Home Minister G. The incident has sparked a political row, with BJP accusing Congress and RJD of lowering political discourse and Congress alleging BJP is using the issue to distract from real concerns like voter list irregularities. PM Modi emphasized that the people of Bihar shared his pain, reflecting the cultural reverence for mothers in India.
