A landslide occurred this morning at the famous pilgrimage site of Datta Peetha (Bababudangiri in Chikmagalur district), Karnataka. The incident has caused panic among pilgrims, and vehicular movement on the pilgrimage route has been temporarily halted.

The local administration and forest department have taken immediate action to ensure the safety of pilgrims.Incident Details: Around 6:30 AM today, a portion of a hill near the road leading to Datta Peetha collapsed. Preliminary reports suggest that recent heavy rainfall caused soil loosening in the area. No loss of life has been reported so far, though minor damage to some vehicles is possible.Administration’s Response: The Chikmagalur district administration has promptly initiated rescue operations. Teams from the forest department, police, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have arrived at the site and are working to clear the debris from the road. District Commissioner Raghvendra Kumar stated, “The safety of pilgrims is our priority. Steps are being taken to clear the road swiftly. Environmental Experts’ Warning: Environmental experts suspect that heavy rainfall and deforestation may be behind this incident. “Deforestation and unregulated mining around Datta Peetha have reduced soil stability. Such incidents may occur in the future as well,” warned environmental expert Dr. Suresh Kumar.Devotees’ Anxiety: Some devotees visiting Datta Peetha were shaken by the incident. “We were heading to the temple this morning when we suddenly heard the sound of the hill collapsing. We immediately stopped our vehicle.
