He expressed disappointment over India’s oil purchases from Russia, stating, “We have imposed a 50% tariff on India. But personally, Modi and I are on good terms. We share a great friendship.”Recalling Modi’s visit to the US two months ago, Trump said they warmly welcomed him. Just a few weeks ago, Trump announced a 50% tariff on India’s imports, effective from August 27, with half of it imposed as a penalty for India’s oil trade with Russia.Amid Trump’s statements, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick remarked that India would apologize within two months. Despite US pressure to stop buying Russian oil, India has not complied.
