Opposition has emerged against the selection of Banu Mushtaq to inaugurate Dasara, with calls for her to decline the invitation. Amid demands that a person from another religion should not perform the inauguration, a 'Chamundi Betta Chalo' (March to Chamundi Hill) has been called for September 9.

The move has drawn resistance from various quarters, including political circles and Hindu religious organizations. The Hindu Jagaran Vedike is set to begin a march from Kurubarahalli Circle in Mysuru to Chamundi Hill, stating their journey is a pilgrimage to the abode of Mother Chamundeshwari. Last Wednesday, the Mysuru district administration officially extended an invitation to the writer and activist, following the state government's order. Despite the intense opposition, Banu Mushtaq is reported to have accepted the invitation to inaugurate the Mysuru Dasara.
