Mandya, September 8, 2025: A stone-pelting incident occurred during the Ganesh idol immersion procession in Maddur, Mandya district, on Sunday night, September 7, 2025. Mandya Superintendent of Police (SP) Mallikarjun Baladandi provided details to the media, stating that the incident took place when the procession, which began from Tamil Nadu Colony, passed near a mosque in Ram Rahim Nagar around 8 PM IST. Stones were allegedly thrown at the procession, followed by retaliatory stone pelting between two groups, and reports indicate that the electricity was also cut off during the incident.
The stone pelting resulted in damage to windowpanes of some houses, and several individuals sustained injuries, requiring treatment at Maddur town hospital. The police intervened promptly to control the situation and ensured the Ganesh idol immersion proceeded under heavy security. Two cases have been registered in connection with the incident, and 21 individuals have been detained. Efforts are ongoing to identify additional suspects. Several political leaders have commented on the incident, with Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka notably criticizing the state government, alleging that it has been complicit in such incidents, as similar events occurred previously.
