A Delhi court is set to deliver its order today, September 11, 2025, at 4 PM on a criminal complaint against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, alleging she forged documents to enroll in the voter list before acquiring Indian citizenship in 1983. The complaint, filed by advocate Vikas Tripathi at Rouse Avenue Court, claims Gandhi’s name appeared on the New Delhi constituency voter list in 1980, despite her becoming an Indian citizen only on April 30, 1983, under Section 5 of the Citizenship Act.

Senior advocate Pavan Narang, representing Tripathi, argued that her inclusion in the 1981-82 voter list was irregular, as only Indian citizens are eligible to vote. He noted her name was deleted in 1982, suggesting an acknowledgment of the irregularity, and re-entered in 1983 after citizenship.

Narang alleges forged documents may have been used, misleading the Election Commission, and constituting a cognizable offense. The plea seeks an FIR and police investigation, citing a 1985 Allahabad High Court ruling confirming Gandhi’s citizenship date.
