Renowned music maestro Ilaiyaraaja visited the historic Kollur Mookambika Temple on Wednesday, offering valuable diamond and gold ornaments to the deities. The legendary composer and singer presented a diamond crown to Goddess Mookambika and a gold sword to Lord Veerabhadra.
According to temple authorities and photos shared by N. Subramanya Adiga, a hereditary priest, the estimated value of the diamond crown alone is between Rs 4 to 8 crore. The gold ornaments, including a gold face mask and a sword, were offered to the deity in the presence of the priests and Subramanya Adiga.
Ilaiyaraaja's son and music director, Karthik Raja, accompanied him on the visit. This gesture of devotion comes amid recent controversies surrounding the music director, including a copyright notice issued to certain filmmakers for using his songs without permission.
Last year, he was also reportedly stopped by officials from entering the sanctum sanctorum of the Andal Temple in Srivilliputhur.
