The MNS Cinema Wing chief, Ameya Khopkar, has voiced his anger against comedian Kapil Sharma for referring to Mumbai as 'Bombay' in his show, sparking a controversy.

Even 30 years after Mumbai was officially renamed, Khopkar expressed his frustration on Twitter, criticizing the continued use of 'Bombay' in Kapil Sharma’s show.

In The Great Indian Kapil Show, aired on Netflix, both guests and Kapil himself have repeatedly referred to Mumbai as 'Bombay', which Khopkar has strongly condemned.

In his post, Khopkar stated, "Even 30 years after Bombay was officially renamed Mumbai, celebrity guests, a Delhi-based Rajya Sabha MP, the show’s host, and many Hindi films continue to use the term 'Bombay'."

He further noted that Mumbai was officially renamed by the Maharashtra government in 1995 and received central government approval in 1996, emphasizing that this name should be used.

It remains to be seen how Kapil Sharma or his team will respond to this issue.

Khopkar further alleged, "Not only in Kapil Sharma’s show but also in Hindi films and web series on OTT platforms, Mumbai is deliberately being called Bombay."

Clarifying his warning, he added, "If no changes are made, we will protest at the sets and halt the shooting."

Khopkar also questioned, "Kapil himself has been living in Mumbai for the last 15-17 years. Is he still unable to name the city correctly? If we call him Tapil instead of Kapil, would that be acceptable?"
