Chennai: In a heart-wrenching and horrific incident in Tamil Nadu, a mother has confessed to killing her own infant daughter. The woman admitted to the crime, driven by anger over her husband's reduced love for her. Police have arrested the accused mother and are conducting a thorough investigation. The mother has been identified as Benita Jeya Annal, a 20-year-old resident of Baloor Kattuvilai near Karungal in Kanniyakumari district.Benita had fallen in love with and married Karthik, a 21-year-old from Nagakonanur near Vedasandur in Dindigul district, about a year ago. The couple welcomed a baby girl, but tragically, the mother has now taken the child's life.
According to reports, she suffocated the infant by stuffing tissue paper into her mouth. After the marriage, Karthik lived with his wife's family and worked at a private company. Learning that his wife had killed their child has left him devastated.On September 9, Karthik returned home from work as usual in the evening. When he picked up the baby, he noticed she was unresponsive and not breathing. Panicking, he rushed her to a hospital. Doctors examined the infant and confirmed she had already passed away. There were visible injuries around the baby's mouth. When questioned, Benita claimed the baby had fallen while feeding and gotten hurt.

Shocked, Karthik took the body to a private hospital in Karungal, where doctors again declared her dead, causing him to collapse in grief.Karthik filed a complaint at the Karungal police station. Based on it, the police took custody of the infant's body and sent it for a post-mortem at Asaripallam Government Hospital. The post-mortem report shocked the investigators, clearly indicating murder. Small pieces of tissue paper were found in the baby's throat. After the report, police interrogated Benita intensely.

During questioning, she confessed to the crime. "From the day my baby was born 40 days ago, my husband's love for me has decreased. This has caused problems at home. On the day of the incident, in a fit of anger, I stuffed paper into the baby's mouth," she stated. She accused the baby of being the reason for her husband's waning affection. Benita has now been arrested and produced in court. This case has sparked widespread discussion across Tamil Nadu.
