Amazon Suspends Palestinian Engineer Over Opposition to Israel Contract.!

Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion joint cloud computing contract, was initiated in 2021. In a letter to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and other company executives, Shahroun articulated his opposition to the project.

A Palestinian software engineer, Ahmed Shahroun, has been suspended from his job at Amazon for protesting the company's business ties with Israel. Shahroun was reportedly suspended for his internal communications expressing opposition to Project Nimbus, a cloud computing agreement between Amazon, Google, and the Israeli government.

Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion joint cloud computing contract, was initiated in 2021. In a letter to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and other company executives, Shahroun articulated his opposition to the project.

"As a three-year employee of Amazon, I can't stand to live supporting Israeli actions in Gaza. It feels like a constant struggle to write code for a company that profits from such a situation," Shahroun wrote. He accused Amazon of "systematically suppressing" the voices of pro-Palestinian employees by ignoring their concerns and selectively limiting discussions in the workplace.

The suspension is not an isolated incident within the tech industry. Other major companies have also faced similar protests and job cuts. In August 2025, Microsoft reportedly fired four employees after protests during the company's 50th-anniversary celebration. Reports of similar layoffs have also surfaced at Google and other companies in the wake of Israel-related protests.
