BJP Leaders Oppose State Government's Caste Census, Hold Key Meetings

BJP leaders have strongly condemned the state government's approach to the census. According to them, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's government is "dividing society" and "breaking religions" for political gain through caste calculations.

Bengaluru: Even before the caste census begins in the state, objections regarding caste classification have emerged. In this context, BJP leaders have decided to oppose the state government. Two key meetings are being held at a private hotel in Bengaluru to strategize and take decisions on this matter.

Former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader B.S. Yediyurappa is leading a meeting of Lingayat leaders, while V. Sunil Kumar is heading a meeting of OBC leaders, in response to the inclusion of certain Hindu castes within Christian communities in the government’s caste survey.

Objections to the Caste Census -

The BJP has strongly objected to the inclusion of Christians and certain Hindu sub-castes in the caste census. Scheduled to take place in Karnataka from September 22 to October 7, the caste census forms part of the state’s educational and social survey. BJP-supported OBC leaders have expressed strong opposition, arguing that the inclusion of Hindu sub-castes with Christian communities undermines the Hindu identity. BJP leaders are holding discussions to plan their course of action and oppose the government’s decision. The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (and Your Children Will Be Glad That You Did) : THE #1 SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER Paperback – 14 January 2021
