Bengaluru/Kolar (September 16): In a significant ruling, the Karnataka High Court has invalidated the election victory of Congress MLA K.Y. Nanjegowda (KY Nanjegowda) from the 2023 Assembly elections. The court has also directed a recount of votes. The Karnataka High Court today set aside the election of Congress MLA K.V. Nanjegowda from the Malur constituency. Following the order for a recount, the court granted a 30-day stay upon the MLA's request, providing him an opportunity to approach the Supreme Court.
Reasons for the Ruling:
The District Election Officer failed to submit the video footage of the vote counting process.

A bench led by Justice Devadas. R heard the election petition filed by BJP's defeated candidate K.S. Manjunath Gowda and delivered the judgment today. The court stated that MLA K.V. Nanjegowda's election should be declared invalid.

In response to the BJP candidate's allegations of irregularities in the vote counting, the court has directed a re-verification of the votes. Additionally, on the request of the counsels, the court stayed the implementation of its order disqualifying the MLA from his position for 30 days and informed that he could file an appeal in the Supreme Court.
In the 2023 Assembly elections, MLA K.Y. Nanjegowda had won by a narrow margin of 248 votes. His rival, K.S.
