Karnataka Government Removes 2.13 Lakh Women from Gruhalakshmi Scheme Beneficiary List! Here's Why

Following an order from the Women and Child Development Department, 2.13 lakh women who pay income tax or GST have been removed from the Gruhalakshmi Scheme beneficiary list. Financial aid will be directly transferred to beneficiaries' accounts only after they update their details.

The Women and Child Development Department has removed over 2.13 lakh women from the Gruhalakshmi Scheme beneficiary list due to their status as members of tax-paying families. The primary reason for this action is that either the husband or wife pays income tax or files GST returns. According to data from the District Health Department, the names of 1.08 lakh women heads of families who pay income tax and 1.04 lakh women who pay GST have been excluded from the list.

This decision was made after beneficiaries updated their details in the family application.Since the scheme's launch in June 2023, over 1.31 crore women across the state had registered for the Gruhalakshmi Scheme. However, the government later issued an order to exclude beneficiaries who pay income tax or GST from the scheme.Over the past two and a half years, more than ₹50,005 crore has been directly transferred to the accounts of 1.28 crore beneficiaries, including 23 lakh women from Scheduled Castes and 8 lakh from Scheduled Tribes.
