In a significant development, Sameer Modi, the brother of fugitive businessman Lalit Modi and former IPL chairman Sameer Modi, was arrested by Delhi Police at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Thursday. The arrest is in connection with a case of alleged rape and kidnapping filed against him.
Sameer Modi, 55, who is also an executive director at Godfrey Phillips India, was apprehended by police as he was about to board a flight. The arrest stems from a complaint lodged by a woman, and an FIR was registered at the New Friends Colony police station on September 10.
According to reports, the police action came after the woman allegedly demanded a settlement of ₹50 crore, which Modi refused to pay. His refusal to meet the demand reportedly led the Delhi Police to proceed with the arrest based on her complaint.
