Channagiri (Sep 21, 2025): The Congress government in Karnataka has been prioritizing the education sector since coming to power. This academic year, the government has undertaken the construction of 800 Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) and 3,000 classrooms, along with implementing internal reservation policies. Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa announced that the recruitment of 18,000 teachers will take place in the coming days.
Speaking at the inauguration of Teachers’ Day celebrations and the foundation stone-laying ceremony for a Guru Bhavan, constructed at a cost of ₹4 crore, at the Sri Maudgal Anjaneyaswamy Community Hall on the outskirts of the town, organized by the Block Education Office and Cluster Resource Centre, the minister emphasized the importance of education. He stated that for the current generation to contribute meaningfully, the sound of school bells must resonate louder than temple bells in villages. A strong nation can only be built through quality education, he stressed.Since November 1, 2023, all government schools in the state have been provided free electricity, reviving previously unused computers and smart classrooms, ensuring quality education for the underprivileged. The minister highlighted that free CET and NEET coaching is being provided to students, and government employees have been granted salaries under the 6th and 7th Pay Commissions. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has implemented the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) as promised in the election manifesto. Free CET and NEET coaching is also being offered to students in government PU colleges, with plans to extend this to all students across the state from the next academic year.
MLA Basavaraju V. Shivaganga noted that in his constituency, 45 classrooms and 17 new school buildings have been constructed by the Education Department, with 85 additional classrooms built using MLA funds. He urged the Education Minister to allocate funds for the construction of 45 more classrooms. Schools with the highest results will receive ₹55,000 as the first prize, ₹33,000 as the second prize, and ₹11,000 as the third prize.The event was attended by Deputy Director of Education Kotresh, DIET Principal Geetha, Tahsildar N.J.
