Vote Theft Case: Karnataka Government Calls in SIT

The team's primary focus will be the allegation that over six thousand voters' names were removed from the electoral rolls in the Aland constituency.

Following allegations of 'vote theft' in the Aland Assembly constituency in Kalaburagi, the Karnataka government has taken decisive action. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed on Saturday, September 20, to investigate the vote fraud case that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had raised with evidence. The team, headed by B.K. Singh, Additional Director General of Police for the CID unit, also includes IPS officers Saidul Adavat (Superintendent of Police, CCD, CID) and Shubhanvita (Superintendent of Police, SED, CID) as members.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed the development, stating that S. Ambika, the government's Under Secretary, had issued the order for the formation of the SIT. The team's primary focus will be the allegation that over six thousand voters' names were removed from the electoral rolls in the Aland constituency. The SIT has been granted the authority to conduct a state-wide investigation. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, had discussed this alleged conspiracy to remove voters' names using Form 7 during the 2023 assembly elections. While the Election Commission of India had dismissed his statement as baseless, the state government's move has raised expectations of uncovering the truth. It remains to be seen if these developments will lead to significant political changes. Also Read: Navaratri Celebrations Begin at Dharmasthala: Cultural Programs from September 22 to October 1
