Supreme Court Fines Uttarakhand Election Commission ₹2 Lakh for Clarification on Candidate's Name in Multiple Voter Lists

A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta questioned how the SEC could act contrary to statutory provisions. The clarification issued by the SEC was deemed to violate Sections 9(6) and 9(7) of the Uttarakhand Panchayat Raj Act, 2016, as noted by the High Court in July. These sections prohibit an individual from registering their name in more than one territorial constituency or voter list.
