The name 'Google' has an interesting history rooted in mathematics. The term 'Googol' the inspiration for the name was reportedly coined by mathematicians Edward Kasner and Milton Sirotta. In its early days at Stanford University in the 90s, the project was originally called 'BackRub'. The famous name 'Google' came about as a result of a misspelling of 'Googol' during the name change process, and the rest is history.
