Tumakuru: MLA K.N. Rajanna has claimed that Tipu Sultan laid the foundation stone for the KRS (Krishnarajasagara) Dam. Speaking at a Backward Classes meeting in Tumakuru, he stated, "According to what I have read, the KRS Dam at Kannambadi was initiated by Tipu Sultan, and it was completed during the reign of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar."

Rajanna elaborated that during Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar’s time, the dam's completion faced financial challenges. "To fund it, they sold gold from the palace in Bombay," he said. He further noted that Tipu Sultan fought four wars, losing the third one. Additionally, Rajanna shared an anecdote about Tipu’s devotion, saying, "When Tipu’s elephant lost its eyesight, he offered prayers to Nanjundeshwara. After the elephant regained its vision, Tipu donated emeralds to the deity." He emphasized that Tipu Sultan made numerous positive contributions and urged that history should not be distorted.
