The Karnataka caste census, nearing its deadline tomorrow, is likely to be extended, as hinted by Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara.

A final decision will be made after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah returns from Koppal and consults with officials. Various political leaders have voiced opinions on the census. Union Minister V. Somanna questioned its necessity, while Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and others shared specific views on the questionnaire.

He clarified that decisions cannot be based solely on a few opinions. The caste census is vital for social justice but is encountering challenges due to technical glitches and insufficient enumerator training.
