The Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, has officially recognized IIT Madras’ Pravartak Technologies laboratory as an authorized center for testing the operation, availability, and mobility management of 5G Group-1 devices’ core network.

New Delhi: The Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, has officially recognized IIT Madras’ Pravartak Technologies laboratory as an authorized center for testing the operation, availability, and mobility management of 5G Group-1 devices’ core network.

The laboratory has been authorized by the National Centre for Communication Security (NCCS) to test 21 critical core-network functions, including the Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) and 5G Group-1 devices, under mandatory security requirements.

The NCCS oversees the framework for security testing and certification of telecom and ICT products, as part of the Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipment (MTCTE) regulations.Also Read: Sabarimala Gold Missing Case: Kerala High Court Orders SIT Probe

According to IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti, this recognition will reduce reliance on foreign laboratories, fostering collaboration between academia and industry.

It will also create greater opportunities for research and innovation in the telecom sector. Pravartak Technologies Foundation, registered under Section 8 of the Indian Companies Act, will serve as a key hub for sensors, networks, actuators, and control systems. As India’s first laboratory authorized to test 5G core-network functions, it plays a pivotal role in ensuring the security and resilience of telecom networks.M.J. Shankararaman, CEO of Pravartak Technologies, emphasized that this certification underscores the laboratory’s critical role in guaranteeing the safety and stability of telecom networks.
