Sindh (October 07, 2025): A bomb attack targeted the Jaffar Express train in the Sultankot area near the Sindh-Balochistan border. Several passengers were injured, and multiple train coaches derailed in the incident. This marks the seventh attack on the Jaffar Express in 2025. Rescue operations are underway, and the area has been secured with heavy military presence.

Suspected Involvement of Baloch Liberation Army (BLA): Although no group has officially claimed responsibility, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) is suspected to be behind the attack. The BLA has been engaged in a decades-long insurgency against the Pakistani government and military, frequently targeting the Jaffar Express. This train, a critical link between Balochistan’s capital, Quetta, and Peshawar in Sindh, has been repeatedly attacked. Notable incidents this year include:

  • August 2025: An IED explosion in Balochistan’s Mastung district derailed six coaches of the Jaffar Express, injuring several passengers and halting train services for days.

  • March 2025: The BLA hijacked the Jaffar Express, carrying 400 passengers, and held them hostage.

According to Pakistan Railways, 270 passengers were on board during this latest attack.

The explosion in Sultankot is the second bomb attack in the region within 10 hours. Another blast near the railway tracks damaged the infrastructure, disrupting train operations. The Jaffar Express service is likely to be temporarily suspended. Balochistan is witnessing intense protests by the Baloch people against the Pakistani government and military. These protests have resulted in over 10 deaths and numerous injuries.
