What Did Gadkari Say?

Price Parity: EV battery costs have dropped from $150 per kilowatt-hour to $55-65, making upfront EV prices equivalent to petrol/diesel vehicles. Running costs are also lower—₹1/km for EVs vs. ₹5-7/km for petrol.

Government Vision: The focus is on local manufacturing over imports, reducing costs, pollution, and boosting self-reliance. India aims to become the world's No. 1 automobile industry in the next 5 years.

Other Initiatives: Promotion of electric tractors, hydrogen fuel vehicles, and ethanol production (farmers have earned an extra ₹45,000 crore from corn-based ethanol).
