Bihar Election Alliance Standoff: Seat Sharing Labyrinth Delays Tejashwi’s CM Candidacy Announcement.!

Seat-sharing talks intensify in the RJD-Congress alliance, as demands from smaller parties are complicating the process. The seat-sharing is expected to be finalized within the next two days, along with the announcement of Tejashwi Yadav as the prime ministerial candidate.

Following the announcement of dates for the Bihar Assembly Elections, seat-sharing talks within the opposition 'INDIA' alliance have intensified, creating a complex political challenge. Fierce competition has emerged between key partners, the RJD and the Congress, over the allocation of seats and influential constituencies, forcing leaders to seek new terms for their coalition.

The negotiation process is particularly complicated due to the insistence of smaller allied parties on securing a larger number of seats. Reports indicate that after a meeting on Monday, the RJD tentatively agreed to offer the Congress approximately 54 seats, though the Congress is now demanding an additional 10 seats. Leaders from both parties are scheduled to hold a further round of discussions to break this deadlock.

Meanwhile, the CPI(ML) has rejected the RJD’s proposal of 19 seats, arguing for around 30 seats based on their strong past electoral performance. Furthermore, Mukesh Sahani's VIP party, which was offered 12 seats, is reportedly demanding over 20 seats in addition to the post of Deputy Chief Minister. The RJD is likely to allocate 10 seats to the remaining Left parties. The RJD and Congress will also need to adjust their own quotas to accommodate the JMM, Pashupati Paras's RLJP, and I.P. Gupta's Inclusive Party (IIP).

The RJD is believed to aspire to contest around 140 seats alone, but this ambition faces hurdles given the demands of its smaller allies. If the RJD agrees to slightly compromise on its demands, the seat distribution process could be smoothed out. Otherwise, the possibility of a 'friendly contest' among alliance partners in some seats cannot be ruled out. Should the talks prove successful, the tentative seat distribution is projected to be: 135 seats for the RJD, JMM, and RLJP combined; 58 seats for the Congress and IIP; 25 seats for CPI-ML; 6 seats for CPI; 4 seats for CPM; and 15 seats for the VIP party.

Despite the current complexity, alliance leaders have expressed confidence in reaching a resolution soon. It is expected that the seat-sharing agreement will be finalised within the next two days, coinciding with the anticipated announcement of Tejashwi Yadav as the Chief Ministerial candidate.
