Trump Reignites Trade War with China: 100% Tariff Threat, Xi Jinping Meeting Cancelled.!

U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed a 100 percent tariff on Chinese goods and canceled the meeting with Xi Jinping. This move has led to heightened tension in U.S.–China relations and sparked fears of a global market downturn.

The escalating trade tensions between the United States and China have reached a new peak after former President Donald Trump announced an additional 100 percent tariff on Chinese goods and threatened to cancel a planned summit with President Xi Jinping. This move comes as Trump reignites the trade conflict, specifically citing Beijing's aggressive stance on export controls of rare earth minerals.

The new punitive tariffs and US export controls on "any and all critical software" are scheduled to take effect on November 1st, a response to what Trump termed "extraordinarily aggressive actions by Beijing." Trump used his Truth Social platform to express his disbelief, writing, "It is impossible to believe that China would take such a step, but they have done it, and the rest is history."

The sudden renewal of the US-China trade war immediately sent shockwaves through global markets. The Nasdaq index plummeted by 3.6 percent, and the S&P 500 dropped by 2.7 percent, reflecting widespread fears of a global market contraction. Currently, Chinese goods are subject to a 30 percent US tariff, which was initially imposed by Trump over accusations of unfair practices and Beijing's alleged complicity in the fentanyl trade; China's retaliatory tariffs currently stand at 10 percent. The primary catalyst for Trump's latest threat appears to be China’s recent actions regarding rare earth minerals. Hours before the tariff announcement, Trump posted on Truth Social, claiming that China had sent letters to countries worldwide detailing new export controls on these critical materials.

Rare earth elements are vital components for manufacturing everything from smartphones and electric vehicles to military hardware and renewable energy technology. China currently dominates the global production and processing of these essential materials, giving Beijing significant leverage in any trade dispute.
