Gandhi questioned why women journalists were kept out of the press briefing hosted for the visiting Afghan Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi. She asserted that the incident constituted an "insult" to the women of India. She further asked how such disrespect was permitted in a country where women are a capable and integral part of the nation. Muttaqi held the press conference following extensive talks with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi on Friday. Reports indicated a conspicuous absence of women reporters and that only a limited number of journalists were allowed entry, leading to widespread criticism and numerous accusations regarding the event's guest list.
In her tweet on the social media platform X, Priyanka Gandhi directly addressed the Prime Minister: "Prime Minister Modi ji, please state your position regarding the exclusion of women from the press conference of the Taliban representative visiting India.
