Bengaluru, October 11, 2025 – The Karnataka High Court on Friday issued a notice to the state government in response to a petition challenging the division of the Mahadevapura Assembly constituency between the East and South zones of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The matter was heard by a Division Bench led by Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice C.M. Joshi, following a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Bengaluru residents P.S. Hareesh and R. Ranganath argued that the division of the Mahadevapura Assembly constituency was carried out arbitrarily, in violation of Section 26(3) of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024. According to the notification issued on September 2, 2025, a significant portion of the Mahadevapura Assembly constituency has been incorporated into the East BBMP zone, while a smaller part has been transferred to the South BBMP zone. The petitioners contend that this division violates Section 26(3) of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024.
