US Ambassador-designate to India, Sergio Gor, held significant diplomatic meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Friday, a move seen as an effort to recalibrate bilateral ties amidst ongoing trade and tariff pressures between the two nations.
Gor, who is expected to formally take office next year, arrived for this early visit, which is being viewed by analysts as a key diplomatic step to reorganise the India-US international relationship, particularly against the backdrop of global trade and tariff anxieties.
Prime Minister Modi took to X to share his thoughts on the meeting. "Glad to receive Mr. Sergio Gor, Ambassador-designate of the US to India. I'm confident that his tenure will further strengthen the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership," the Prime Minister posted. https://youtu.be/v9j3KkMVjB4?si=t6OYYFREHcRsxfCS
In a notable gesture of goodwill, Gor presented PM Modi with a signed photograph from a joint press conference at the White House earlier this year. The photograph reportedly featured a handwritten message from President Donald Trump that read, "Mr. Prime Minister, you are great." Also Read: Devadurga MLA Karemma G. Separately, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held meetings with Gor, joined by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. The discussions, according to information, focused on strengthening shared priorities regarding the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and international activities.
"Discussed and analysed the India-US relationship and its global significance. Wished him well for his new responsibilities," Jaishankar wrote on his X account following the meeting.
The high-level engagements underscore the importance of dialogue in navigating the complexities of the current trade relationship, which has seen strain over tariff policies. Also Read: Malayalam Senior Actor Jayakrishnan's Arrest... What's This T*errorist Matter?
