A special vaccination campaign concerning Pulse Polio has been conducted today in various states and districts of India. Information indicates that the Sub-National Immunisation Day (SNID) has been undertaken to create awareness regarding the spread and eradication of polio.
This measure has been taken with the objective of making India polio-free. The World Health Organization (WHO) is said to have declared India a polio-free nation in 2014. It is stated that the last case of the Wild Pulse Polio virus was recorded in the country in 2011. However, the virus is still reported to be spreading in neighboring countries.
The primary reason for conducting these Pulse Polio rounds now is the essential need to continuously maintain a high level of immunity in children under 5 years of age, thereby preventing the re-entry and spread of the Wild Polio virus from neighboring countries.
