Bengaluru: Following a recent incident at Lal Bagh, another political controversy was reported today near Mattikere's J.P. Park during a walkathon event, culminating in a verbal spat between BJP MLA Munirathna and DCM D.K. Shivakumar, which quickly escalated into a protest.
Munirathna expressed strong anger, stating that no invitation or due protocol respect was given to him as the local MLA, and reportedly staged a dharni (sit-in protest) right inside the park to vent his frustration.
The DKS-Munirathna Face-off and the "Kari Topi" Controversy -
The incident unfolded after DCM D.K. Shivakumar arrived for a walk after concluding a procession/event. At the same time, BJP MLA Munirathna arrived at the park, attending the event in the RSS organizational uniform.
Initially, DKS reportedly walked past Munirathna without acknowledging him. The situation flared up later when DKS eventually raised his hand to greet Munirathna and called him onto the stage, but allegedly addressed him as "Karitopi MLA" (Black Cap MLA) as video says. Angered by the neglect and the taunt, MLA Munirathna lashed out at DKS, saying: "Today is RSS Foundation Day. I was not invited as an MLA and my picture was not displayed. This is an insult. The respect an MLA should be given has not been given. This is not a public event; this is a Congress event."
Dharni at J.P. Park and Grave Allegations -
MLA Munirathna sat down for a dharna outside J.P. Park, launching a scathing attack on officials over the protocol violation. "Officials did not follow government protocol. Is it wrong to question this? If you question, they attempt to assault you," he alleged. He then made a serious accusation against DKS, claiming that "rowdies" were brought from Ramanagara and Channapatna to attempt an assault on him. Congress-BJP Workers Clash and Personal Slurs -
Following Munirathna's sharp statements and anger, Congress and BJP workers at the venue clashed. They shouted at each other, with Congress workers allegedly yelling: "Don't do politics here!"
During the exchange of slogans, Congress workers reportedly shouted: "Rapist Munirathna." as video says, Incensed by this, Munirathna retorted that his opponents were preparing to file more cases against him. He claimed, "They are preparing to file more cases against me. Rape case happened, Dalit harassment case happened, now they are getting ready to file a POCSO case." Police immediately escorted him away from J.P. Park.
Public Complaint on Ganja and Immoral Activities -
Before the political drama unfolded, members of the public who attended the event reportedly filed a complaint with DCM D.K. Shivakumar about immoral activities in the park. It was conveyed that citizens complained the park was being used for smoking Ganja and other immoral activities.
