Bengaluru: An FIR has been filed against five individuals, including builders Bhagirath and Sanjeev Thagadur, at the R.R. Nagar police station for allegedly defrauding around 139 television artists and actors of ₹1.6 crore on the pretext of allotting them residential sites.
The complaint was primarily lodged by Bhavana Belegeere, a member of the Karnataka Television Association (KTVA), along with other prominent artists like Sharathchandra and Rahul. The accused identified as Bhagirath, Sanjeev Thagadur, Guruprasad, Ravindra, and Umakanth are alleged to have collected crores of rupees from the artists with the promise of providing them with land sites.
According to the complaint, the fraud involves the creation of fake layout plans and the submission of forged documents during the process of registering the sites.
The genesis of the fraud dates back to 2015 when Sanjeev Thagadur, a member of the KTVA Site Committee, handled the business of providing sites near Tavarekere. He is accused of collecting lakhs of rupees from the members and later presenting them with fake documents and property accounts. The FIR registered at the Rajarajeshwari Nagar Police Station states that a total of ₹1.6 crore was collected from the artists through the creation of a fake layout plan and fraudulent documentation. The police have launched an investigation into the matter and are currently gathering further information.
