Gujarat Cabinet Reshuffle: 22 Ministers Set to Take Oath Today

A new cabinet is being formed in the Gujarat government today, and on Thursday, the ministers of the existing cabinet collectively submitted their resignations.

Gandhinagar: In a dramatic political development that has sent ripples across the nation's political landscape, including in states like Karnataka where cabinet reshuffle talks are currently a hot topic, Gujarat is poised for a complete overhaul of its Council of Ministers today.

All 16 ministers in Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel's cabinet tendered their resignations en masse on Thursday, paving the way for a massive restructuring of the state government.

The oath-taking ceremony for the new Council of Ministers is scheduled for 11:30 AM this morning. Sources indicate that a total of 22 ministers are expected to take the oath of office and secrecy.

The blanket resignation which excluded only the Chief Minister has necessitated a full reconstitution of the cabinet. The outgoing council had 17 members (including the CM), comprising eight Cabinet-rank ministers and the rest as Ministers of State. While a complete shake-up is underway, reliable sources suggest that approximately six ministers from the previous cabinet may be retained in the newly formed government.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was sworn in for his second term on December 12, 2022. The 182-member Gujarat Assembly has a constitutional limit allowing for a maximum of 27 ministers. The reshuffle follows the recent appointment of former minister Jagdish Vishwakarma as the new Gujarat BJP State President earlier this month.
