Kerala: The Kerala High Court on Friday closed a petition filed by St. Rita Public School challenging an education department directive allowing a Muslim student to attend classes wearing a hijab [Manager, St. Rita Public School vs. State of Kerala & Others]. The eighth-grade student, through her counsel, conveyed to Justice V.G. Arun that she did not wish to pursue her studies at St. Rita Public School or escalate the matter further, prompting the court to close the case. "The court is pleased to note that good sense has prevailed and the spirit of fraternity, a cornerstone of the Constitution, has been upheld. Accordingly, the petition is closed," Justice Arun stated. The judge orally remarked, "Since the student is voluntarily leaving the school, it cannot be construed that the school management has expelled her."
