CM Siddaramaiah Orders Race Course Relocation After Surprise Visit

Relocation to Kunigal: CM Siddaramaiah reportedly urged the BTC authorities to expedite the process of shifting their operations to the Kunigal Stud Farm in Tumakuru district as soon as possible.

BENGALURU: The long-standing issue of relocating the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) from the heart of the city has gained momentum after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made an unscheduled visit to the Race Course premises on Sunday (as reported on October 26, 2025). The Chief Minister, accompanied by officials and his legal advisor, held discussions with club office-bearers who were rushed back from the Mysore Derby to meet him. Also Read; Simplified GST Registration from Nov 1: Automatic Approval in 3 Days

Key Directives Issued by the Chief Minister:

Relocation to Kunigal: CM Siddaramaiah reportedly urged the BTC authorities to expedite the process of shifting their operations to the Kunigal Stud Farm in Tumakuru district as soon as possible.

Two-Year Deadline: While the club requested more time, sources indicate the Chief Minister directed the club to vacate the prime Bengaluru premises and complete the move to the new location within two years of receiving litigation-free land. The Kunigal property is approximately 400 acres, compared to the 80 acres in Bengaluru.WEET Cotton T-Shirt and Pyjama Set for Men,Night Wear for Men,Men's Pyjama Set 122

Withdrawal of Legal Case: The CM insisted that the club withdraw the petition it had filed regarding the premises in the Supreme Court. BTC sources confirmed that the club's extraordinary general body meeting has already approved the decision to move racing activities out of the current location and withdraw the petition.

The demand to reclaim the Race Course land for public use, given its location in Bengaluru's Central Business District, has been a recurring issue for decades. The government has recently adopted a tougher stance, often delaying the renewal of the club's racing license to force compliance with the relocation plan. CM Siddaramaiah's direct and unannounced visit underscores the government's current resolve to finalize the move.
