A tipper lorry loaded with gravel collided head-on with an RTC bus coming from the opposite direction, resulting in the death of 24 people, according to reports. Rescue operations are still underway.

Telangana: A devastating road accident in Telangana's Ranga Reddy district has claimed the lives of 24 people after a State-run RTC bus collided head-on with a speeding tipper lorry loaded with gravel. The collision occurred at Mirzaguda near Chevella on the Hyderabad-Bijapur highway.

Rescue operations are currently underway, as reports indicate that a significant number of passengers were trapped under the gravel after the lorry overturned following the crash.

Incident Details and Casualties

Location: Mirzaguda, Chevella, Ranga Reddy District, on the Hyderabad-Bijapur Highway.

Vehicles Involved: An RTC Bus and a tipper lorry laden with gravel.

Estimated Passengers: Approximately 70 passengers were traveling on the bus at the time of the accident.

Casualties: 24 people have been confirmed dead, with several others sustaining serious injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the excessive speed of the tipper lorry was the primary cause of the collision. PM Modi Expresses Grief and Announces Compensation -

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep anguish over the loss of lives in the tragic accident.

In a post on his official 'X' account, the Prime Minister conveyed his condolences:

"The loss of lives in the accident is profoundly saddening. My thoughts are with the bereaved families during this difficult time, and I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured."

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of the deceased, and ₹50,000 to the injured.

CM Directs Officials -

Following the incident, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy immediately instructed officials to rush to the accident site to oversee prompt rescue and relief operations and provide all necessary assistance to the victims and their families.
