Why did Ravikumar meet the CM?
There is a rare and deadly genetic disorder called Gaucher disease. Currently, there is no medicine to cure it. Simply put, patients with this condition cannot naturally break down a fat called glucocerebroside in their bodies. This happens because their bodies lose the ability to produce the enzyme needed to digest this fat. It is a congenital disease. In 2022, when Basavaraj Bommai was the Chief Minister, the central government provided assistance of ₹50 lakh per family to 34 patients, totaling around ₹18 crore. The state government also continued to release grants without any hurdles. However, the Siddaramaiah government has paid only ₹1.8 crore out of the ₹14 crore due this year, leaving the rest pending. Ravikumar traveled in the CM's car to bring this issue to his attention. Some, unaware of the facts, have spoken recklessly, it is said.
