The Karnataka High Court on Monday issued notices to the state government in a petition filed by the Banjara, Bhovi, Korama, and Koracha communities challenging the state cabinet’s decision taken on August 19, 2025, on the classification and internal reservation for the 101 Scheduled Castes (SCs) in the state. The decision was based on the report of the Justice H. Nagamohan Das Commission.
The petition, filed by Shamrao K. Pawar of the Banjara, Bhovi, Korama, Koracha Social Welfare Association, was heard by a single-judge bench of Justice Suraj Govindraj. Also Read; Former Cricket Coach Shot Dead While Heading to Wedding with Wife and Daughter-in-Law
Counsel for the petitioners argued: “This is a reservation-related case. The allocation of quotas based on the Justice Nagamohan Das Committee report is being challenged.”
After hearing the submissions, the bench issued notices to: The State Government
Principal and Joint Secretaries, Commissioner of the Social Welfare Department
Heads of Personnel and Administrative Reforms and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission
The court also directed that another petition—seeking a stay on new appointments under the internal reservation as per the Justice Nagamohan Das report—be tagged and heard together with the present case. When petitioners’ counsel requested an interim stay, the bench responded: “Since an interim order already prevents appointments under the internal reservation decision, there is no need to consider another interim order in this petition. This application is unnecessary.”
