A shocking incident occurred at the Mandya District Collector (DC) office premises today, where a farmer attempted to set himself on fire. The farmer, identified as Manjegowda, resorted to the desperate act out of frustration over the persistent failure of authorities to resolve his land dispute for several years.
The Desperation and Allegations -
Manjegowda poured petrol on himself and attempted self-immolation right outside the DC office, stating that he was completely disillusioned by the administrative system. Alleged Negligence: In his distress, Manjegowda accused officials of negligence. He specifically stated that the Tahsildar and other authorities had not responded appropriately to his concerns and had intentionally delayed resolving his problem. He conveyed to the media that his decision was born out of sheer exhaustion and the unbearable pressure of having his fundamental land issue ignored.
Rescue and Aftermath -
Police and security personnel on the premises immediately intervened when Manjegowda attempted to light himself, successfully putting out the flames and preventing severe injury.
Hospitalization: The farmer was rushed to the MIMS Hospital for treatment. Local residents expressed profound sadness, noting that the act itself shows the depth of his suffering due to official indifference.
The incident is being viewed as a direct result of administrative negligence, raising serious questions about whether the farmer’s land problem will finally be addressed following this extreme and distressing action.
