The Central Government's four new labour codes, implemented on Friday as reformed versions of labour policies in place since India's independence, have generated both support and opposition.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence in the new framework, announcing the enforcement of the four new labour codes on Friday (November 22). The implemented codes are:
Code on Wages, 2019
Industrial Relations Code, 2020
Code on Social Security, 2020
Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020
In a post on his 'X' account, Prime Minister Modi stated, "The notified new labour codes are reformed labour codes formulated after independence. They will enable the empowerment of workers. These codes will be a milestone in providing universal social commitment and beneficial opportunities to Nari Shakti (women power) and Yuva Shakti (youth power)." iQOO Z10x 5G (Ultramarine, 6GB RAM, 128GB Storage) | 6500 mAh Large Capacity Battery | Dimensity 7300 Processor | Military-Grade Durability
Massive Protest Against the Codes -
The four new codes replace 29 previous labour laws, a change that has sparked significant backlash. Opposing groups have labelled the policies as "anti-people, dark labour policies of the Centre."
In a show of dissent, protesters have announced plans to burn the draft copies of the Centre's Shram Shakti Policy 2025 on November 26, coinciding with Constitution Day. Also Read: Jagdeep Dhankhar Makes First Public Address Months After Resigning as Vice President
