Bengaluru to Become India’s ‘Water Startup Capital’: BWSSB’s Landmark Initiative..!

In a historic first for the country, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has thrown open its doors to water-technology startups, offering them space and real-world conditions to conduct Proof-of-Concept (PoC) trials inside its treatment plants.

Marking the beginning of this ambitious journey, BWSSB Chairman Dr. Ram Prasath Manohar on Friday inaugurated a pilot facility of Bengaluru-based startup ‘Boson Whitewater’ at the Kadubeesanahalli Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). We are determined to transform Bengaluru into India’s ‘Water Startup Capital’. We have already given the first slot to Boson Whitewater.

This is the first time ever in India that a government water board has allowed a private startup to set up and demonstrate advanced wastewater-reuse technology inside an operational STP under live conditions.

The Boson Whitewater pilot unit receives treated water from the government STP and further purifies it through an advanced 11-stage treatment process.Also Read: Refer Higher Education Commission of India Bill 2025 to Parliamentary Panel: Digvijaya Singh

The plant will produce 70,000 litres per day of near-potable, ultra-pure water suitable for industrial use (especially cooling towers).Target customers Industries and commercial establishments along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) corridor.


Environmental benefit: Reduced pressure on freshwater sources and prevention of treated wastewater from unnecessarily flowing into lakes.
