Bengaluru and large parts of south-interior Karnataka have been experiencing unusually intense cold weather for the past week. As December began, thick morning fog and biting night-time chill have pushed minimum temperatures down from the usual 25–27°C down to a chilly 15–18°C the lowest in several years for this season.

Residents are already pulling out woollens, jackets and windcheaters much earlier than usual. Doctors report a spike in cold-related illnesses respiratory problems, viral fever, joint pain and digestive issues.

The IMD has warned that another spell of light to moderate rain is very likely in Bengaluru this evening/night, which will further intensify the night-time chill.
Over the next seven days, south-interior Karnataka is expected to receive scattered light to moderate rainfall (total 12–18 mm). Likely rain: Bidar, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Yadgir (expected min temp 14–18°C) Mostly dry but very cold Vijayapura, Dharwad, Belagavi (low rain probability) Farmers in rain-affected northern districts are advised to protect standing crops from excess moisture and fungal attacks.
