Massive Voter Roll Cleanup in Uttar Pradesh: Nearly 3 Crore Names Removed Ahead of 2026 Deadlines!

As part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process being conducted across the country, the first phase of the voter list revision in Uttar Pradesh has been completed, and the names of 28.9 million (2.89 crore) citizens have been removed.

In a major move to streamline the electoral process, the Election Commission (EC) has struck off approximately 2.89 crore voters from Uttar Pradesh’s draft rolls. This significant reduction comes as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) across the country.

The draft electoral roll, published on January 6, 2026, reveals a sharp decline in the state's total voter base, shrinking it from 15.44 crore to 12.55 crore.

Why were 2.89 crore names removed?

Addressing a press conference, Navdeep Rinwa, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh, clarified that the names were removed after a rigorous verification process. The primary reasons for the deletion include:

Deceased Voters: Removal of names of individuals who have passed away.

Permanent Migration: Voters who have permanently shifted their residence to other states or districts.

Duplicate Entries: Identification of voters who had registered their names in multiple constituencies.

Public Opportunity for Objections

The Election Commission has emphasized that this is a draft roll and not the final list. If any eligible citizen finds their name missing or "invalidated" erroneously, they have a window to file claims and objections. W for Woman Women's Viscose Solid Straight Kurta Sets With Slim Pants & Dupatta

Deadline for Objections: Voters can file their claims until February 6, 2026.

Final List Publication: The corrected and final electoral roll will be officially published on March 6, 2026.

Political Ripple Effects

The removal of nearly 18.7% of the state's voters has sent shockwaves through the political landscape. With Uttar Pradesh being a key political battleground, opposition parties are closely monitoring the SIR process. Concerns have been raised regarding the scale of the cleanup, with political analysts predicting that this revision could significantly impact seat calculations in upcoming elections.

How to Check Your Name?

Citizens are encouraged to visit the official Voter Service Portal or contact their local Booth Level Officer (BLO) to verify their status. If your name has been removed, you must submit Form-6 for re-inclusion before the February 6 deadline. Also Read: Hyderabad Woman Nikitha Murdered in US: Father Alleges Money Dispute as Motive
